A Day the World Seemed Big.

S:  We got an early start when Michelle was up for the day at 3 am.  We went downstairs for a 7am continental breakfast:

This soup. Oh this soup.  A. Mmmazing.
Mashed potatoes, ham, creamy onion soup, and noodles are not exactly what I usually have in mind for breakfast, but they had lychee and kiwi yogurt and crossiants with jam to balance it out. ;)

Michelle got the royal treatment.

All the ammenities she needed.
They even gave her her own bathtub to use while we were here.
These girls work here and spoiled Michelle everyday.  This was a picture taken right before we left when some of them got off work.
Then she was toted around in this as we ventured out into the streets of Taipei.  What a life!

Taipei, Daan District:

Isn't there just something so exhilerating about walking down the streets of a big city?  This was such a fun morning figuring things out together and exploring the town.

\
That's Taipei 101, the second tallest building in the world. (Dubai wins 1st place)

There are scooters EVERYWHERE here!  They zoom up to the front at a stoplight in front of all the cars and when it turns green it's like a big rat race.  It's as if they have rules of their own. Dan's itching to drive one but I'd be scared silly to try it here.

How many people can you fit on one scooter??  Click here.

Here's a close-up from wikipedia.

A Walk in the Park...

Daan Park

I tried to be discreet when taking this picture.  This woman is praying (bowing many times) to this statue of a Buddhist God.  You can only see the feet of the statue.

We passed many groups of people exercising.

Ok I didn't take this picture but we really did see quite a few little old men like this out doing Tai Chi and meditating alone.  I didn't have the guts to snap a picture up close.
This is a pathway to walk on to massage your feet.

We really admire the way the people make well-being a priority here.  This park is humongous and much care is put into it so that people can come have a place to exercise, and enjoy nature at its finest.
See, look how huge this park is!  We only walked through 1/3 of it.

Out for the count

Off to look for housing for the afternoon...

  1. That breakfast looks amazing...and I guess for you, it would have been dinnertime anyways. ;)

    Love the tiny bathtub picture!

In fact, I love seeing all of these pictures. Glad you've made it easy to see them!
